We would kindly like to invite you to the first Photo book award in Slovenia. The award will be accompanied by an exhibition of the contemporary photobook and will coincide with the first Festival of photography Maribor and with the exhibition Lessons from 1991: the rise of nationalism through the eyes of photojournalists.

The theme of the photo book award is Boundaries, borders and limits. The theme is not to be taken literally and can be applied to physical, psychological, emotional and other types of boundaries. Eligible are all books that have been published (also self-published) between the 1st of January 2013 till the 31st of July 2016.

The winner will be awarded with a 2000 EUR prize money – no strings attached. Two runner ups will receive 500 EUR each. The prize money goes to the photographer(s).

A selection of about 100-200 books will be shown in an exhibition during the festival. This aims to be one of the biggest presentations of the contemporary photobook in Slovenia.

To apply please fill out one application form per book entered. The application has to be submited together with the book. Final date postponed! The book has to arrive in Maribor till the 20th of September.

The books will be juried by an international jury:

Michael Kollmann – photobook curator in the Ostlicht gallery in Vienna and head of the ViennaPhotoBookFestival
Tanja Lazetić – artist and photobook creator. Her photobook “Whore” is in Parr and Badger’s The photobook Vol. 3
Sergiy Lebedynskyy – artist and co-founder of the SHILO group.

The complete jury will be announced till the end of July.

The books will not be returned. All books will remain in the permanent collection of The Angry Bat. If the books entered for the award are already in The Angry Bat’s collection, they will become part of the photo book collection of the Photo museum Maribor.
